Before I arrived at the shelter, I had made the decision to stay sober, but I was still facing homelessness—without a stable place to go, I was struggling to stay on track. When I found the shelter, it became a turning point. The staff created a safe, structured environment where I could focus on my recovery. They provided not only a bed, but a sense of belonging. With their guidance, I stabilized my life, rebuilt my routines, and set goals for my future. After months of hard work, I reached my biggest milestone: I moved into my own place. Today, I have stability, hope, and a future I’m building one day at a time.

I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Kristin, Kim, and all the very great staff , volunteers, and residents of the community source Hope on 5th Lincoln, Illinois. From the very beginning about two months ago this year, I felt very comfortable and like a member of the close nit family circle of people there. 

The application process was very straight forward for me as I was staying many miles from family in Chicago, couch surfing. After I was accepted, I arrived to a welcoming environment and comfortable place to stay at Hope on Fifth. They had a variety of support and wrap around services to assist me and my family too.

Within approximately six weeks I found shelter and meals to support my long term needs and most of my desires within the same county of Logan County. I highly recommend this fine resource and its staff and programs!
